Weddings, families and portraits in St Neots — Paxton Pits, the Great Ouse riverside, and across Huntingdonshire.
St Neots Photography
St Neots is Cambridgeshire's largest town by population and a surprisingly photogenic environment — the Great Ouse river meadows at the town's western edge, Paxton Pits Nature Reserve three miles north, and the gentle Bedfordshire countryside immediately across the river. I photograph weddings, families, portraits, and corporate commissions across St Neots and the wider Huntingdonshire area, working with the town's river settings and the exceptional natural environments close by.
Paxton Pits Nature Reserve — 300 acres of former gravel extraction lakes restored to wildflower meadows, reed beds, and open water — is one of the most valuable portrait and family photography locations I use in this part of Cambridgeshire. The quality of light over the open water at different times of day, the wildflower-rich grassland in summer, and the accessible lakeside paths make it a genuinely excellent location for natural-light documentary family photography that works in every season.
The Great Ouse riverside in St Neots itself — the willow-fringed towpath between the town bridge and Eaton Socon, the island mill site, and the riverside gardens — provides a complementary setting closer to the town centre. For couples and smaller family groups, the evening light on the Ouse between Eaton Ford and Eaton Socon is particularly attractive.

Common Questions
Paxton Pits Nature Reserve is the outstanding choice for family and lifestyle portrait sessions — the lakes, wildflower meadows and open sky give a genuinely natural quality that is difficult to find so close to a town. The Great Ouse riverside between the town bridge and Eaton Socon is also excellent for couples and small family groups, and Priory Country Park on the southern edge provides a complementary landscape option.
Yes — I cover St Neots and the wider Huntingdonshire area for weddings. St Neots has several hotel and barn wedding venues close to the river and countryside; I am happy to advise on specific venues and timing when you enquire. The combination of the town riverside and the Paxton Pits countryside makes for excellent wedding portrait sessions in the hour after the ceremony.
A standard family session at Paxton Pits is 90 minutes to 2 hours. This gives time to move between the lakeside, the meadow, and the riverside sections for variety, and allows documentary moments to develop naturally. Larger family groups of 6 or more may benefit from a 2.5-hour extended session.
Yes — St Neots is approximately 17 miles west of Cambridge and falls within my standard Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire coverage area. There is no additional travel charge for most St Neots bookings.
