Wardown Park · Luton Hoo · Dunstable Downs · Chilterns AONB
Luton sits at the junction of two remarkable natural landscapes: the Chilterns AONB to the south-west, with its ancient beech woodland and chalk escarpment, and the broad Bedfordshire plain to the north and east. Wardown Park in the town centre is an elegant Victorian park with a lake and mature canopy. Luton Hoo's Capability Brown-landscaped parkland lies at the edge of the town — 1,000 acres of the English landscape tradition. Dunstable Downs, a few miles south, gives vast chalk grassland views across three counties.
I photograph naturally, working with the quality of light each location offers across the seasons. The Chilterns beech woods in late October are among the finest autumn portrait settings in England.

Wardown Park is the most practical Luton location — it offers a Victorian park lake, mature trees, and varied garden spaces all within one site. For something more impressive, Luton Hoo's Capability Brown-landscaped estate has a grandeur rarely found this close to a town. Dunstable Downs gives an entirely different feel: wide chalk escarpment, vast sky, and views to the horizon.
The grounds of Luton Hoo are partially accessible to hotel guests; for portrait sessions I recommend checking current access with the estate. The parkland and lake areas visible from public paths are stunning, and Stockwood Park — which is freely accessible — offers a comparable period garden setting right in Luton.
Yes — I cover the whole Luton and south Bedfordshire area including Dunstable, Harpenden, St Albans, Leighton Buzzard, and into the Chilterns. Travel within 20 miles of Luton is included.
Late October is extraordinary — the Chilterns beech woodland at peak autumn colour is among the finest in England. Spring bluebell season (late April) and midsummer are also beautiful. Dunstable Downs is windswept in winter but gives dramatic winter portrait conditions when the light is low and golden.
